Running Gait Assessments and Running Injury Management
Run Faster and Injury Free
If you’re a runner, you’ve come to the right place.
Uniquely, our entire team of physiotherapists are runners themselves, and certified by The Running Clinic to assess and treat runners.
Whether you’re a beginner, returning after an injury, or a seasoned runner, our Running Gait Analysis and approach to managing running injuries provide personalized insights you can use to train smarter, improve performance, or finally be able to run without pain.
The Runeasi 3D wearable sensor is small and lightweight, which is worn around your hips like a belt, close to your center of mass. Using this technology, we can access high-quality knetic data in real-time, which can be paired with our clinical reasoning to provide personalized recommendations for your goals.
Physiotherapy Running Gait Assessments
At our physiotherapy clinic, a running gait analysis combines clinical expertise, high-definition video, and advanced wearable technology from Runeasi to give you a clear picture of how your body moves while running. We assess your running technique and can measure factors such as your stride, how much impact you have while you run, and any assymmetries that can be hard to see with the naked eye.
We then provide personalized recommendations on technique, and as appropriate, can also include advice on training, exercises, and footwear. Following the session, you will receive gait videos with commentary and a summary of our recommendations, giving you actionable insight to understand your running mechanics and run with more confidence.
You may benefit from a running assessment if you are:
New to running
Dealing with a long-standing injury or have a history of getting running injuries
Returning to running after a long break
A runner or triathlete who wants to perform better or run faster
A master’s runner dealing with joint pain or osteoarthritis
Training for a big, lofty running goal
An athlete looking to improve their stride and performance or have their jumping analyzed
Running Gait Assessment Frequently Asked Questions
If I’m injured, should I book a regular physiotherapy assessment first, or a running gait analysis?
We highly recommend if you have an active injury (or currently experience pain with running) to book a regular physiotherapy assessment first, as your injury might be changing the way that you run, and confirming the type of injury you have will impact our recommendations.
Are running physiotherapy assessments covered by extended health benefits?
Our running assessments are considered physiotherapy assessments, and they are covered by most extended health benefit plans. We offer direct billing to most insurance companies.
What should I bring to my running gait assessment?
Please bring clean running shoes (no dirt or small rocks in the soles), running shorts, and a sports bra if appropriate. You’re welcome to bring more than one pair of running shoes if you would like us to look at them.
How long can I expect to run on the treadmill?
Clients can expect to run for up to 15 minutes on the treadmill, and this is usually broken up into smaller bouts as we take different video clips.
Can these be done virtually?
These sessions are best done in person, however if you are unable to make it in person to our physiotherapy clinic in Kelowna, BC, we are able to analyze videos without the Runeasi component. Please give us a call at 778-940-6495 if this is something you might be interested in, to learn more about whether this may be appropriate for your case.
What if I’m not comfortable running on the treadmill?
Although the treadmill is preferred for analysis so we can control the speed during different conditions, we are able to take videos of you running outside in our parking lot, and the Runeasi sensor will work outside as well.
Do you still have questions? Feel free to give us a call at 778-940-6495 or send us an email at info@movemed.ca and we’d be happy to help.
